Future Group, founded by Kishore Biyani in 2013, emerged as a trailblazer in India’s retail sector. With flagship brands like Big Bazaar, Central, and Brand Factory, the conglomerate reshaped shopping experiences across the nation. Biyani’s vision capitalized on the aspirations of the burgeoning middle class, offering diverse products under one roof.

However, aggressive expansion led to mounting debts. In a strategic move to alleviate financial strain, Future Group agreed to sell its retail and wholesale businesses to Reliance Industries in 2020. This decision sparked a legal tussle with Amazon, which had previously invested in Future Coupons, citing contractual breaches. The dispute escalated to international arbitration, eventually culminating in Reliance’s acquisition of Future Group’s assets in 2022 .

Despite its challenges, Future Group’s legacy in revolutionizing Indian retail remains indelible, marking a significant chapter in the country’s commercial history.
